and TEENWORKS Summer Camp

Kids Theater Camp Set for June

Granville Little Theatre’s will hold its annual summer day camp
from June 14th - 19th.
  This year there are two different camps offered –
“Beyond and Beyond” which enters its sixth year of operation, and “Teenworks” which is in its third year.
   The theater camps, sponsored by Granville Little Theater, the Granville Arts Council, and Vi and Fritz Productions are designed
to provide instruction and creative experiences in acting, singing, dancing, and
all the technical aspect of putting on a play including costume design, set
construction and lighting.

“Broadway and Beyond” theater camp is for children who are rising
second through seventh graders
and will begin Sunday June 14 at 3:00 with a parents’ meeting and kids’ time in the Mary Potter Middle School gymnasium.
  Camp hours will be 9:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday.  The week will
culminate in the production of
The Little Mermaid at 7:30 on June 19 at the
Oxford City Hall Auditorium.
  Admission is free.

The Broadway and Beyond camp director is Betsy Henderson, chair of the Fine Arts Department at Vance Granville Community College. She will be assisted by the creative talents of Margot Hafner as music director, Alecia Lakernick as dance/movement director and Joanne Fruth as art director.  The administrative director is Joanne Fruth with support from the Board of Directors of Granville Little Theatre.

“Teenworks” will be held simultaneously for rising eighth, ninth and tenth graders. The teens will work in groups of 2 to 3 on a specific scene from a dramatic or musical theater work.  The campers will be responsible for
developing lighting, costumes, set, and props for their scene.
This camp has been designed to meet the needs of all the talented youth who
have graduated out of the Broadway and Beyond experience and are ready to explore their dramatic talents more intensely.
  The camp will also be right for
any teenager looking to have a new creative experience.
  The campers present
their work which will feature the plays of Harold Pinter on Friday June 19 at
7:00 prior to
The Little Mermaid.

Teenworks camp director is Chris Bagley, Minister of Music at Oxford United Methodist Church. He will be assisted by Nikki Peters as lighting/technical director, Cindy Clark for musical theater, and Nancy Melamed on costuming
and artistic design.

Tuition for the young person’s camp is $150 -  Siblings may register for $125.
  Teen camp tuition is $175 -  $150 for siblings. *

ESSAY CONTEST FOR TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS

Theater Camp Essay Contest Open Now

 

It’s time to put those EOG writing skills to work to win a free week at camp!  Granville Little Theatre announces its scholarship essay contest .
Six contest winners will receive a free week at The Broadway and Beyond Theater Camp or Teenworks Theater Camp June 14 – 19.
Four scholarships will be awarded for Broadway and Beyond and two scholarships will be awarded to Teenworks.

 

Anyone wishing to enter the essay contest should write a brief essay and submit by email to production@granvillelittletheater.com by April 30, 2009.   The length of the essay is of the writer’s choice.


For Broadway and Beyond students
your essay should answer these questions: 
What would you like to be in the play The Little Mermaid and why? 
What is your favorite play or movie?

 

Teenworks students should answer these two questions: 
What is your dream role? 
How would you prepare for your dream role?

 

Winners will be announced by email on May 15, 2008.
